Woot!'s monkeys: Mortimer, Monte, and the screaming monkeys

Woot!'s mascots are two monkeys, Mortimer and Monte. They host Woot!'s daily monkey chats, pop up across the site, and have been turned into things you can buy: pillows, stress balls, and, most famously, the screaming monkeys that turn up in Woot-Offs.

Who are Mortimer and Monte?

Woot!'s About page calls them its monkey mascots and credits them with the daily polls, jokes, and "monkey chats" that run alongside the deals. You'll find them:

  • In Woot-Offs. Mortimer's face and a yellow speech bubble appear on Woot-Off deals. (See what a Woot-Off is.)
  • On the odd corners of the site. Monte shows up in Woot!'s empty-cart and error art.
  • In the forums. Woot!'s announcements section is called "Mortimer & Monte's Info Desk," where sales and promo codes get posted.
  • In the app and the Daily Digest email, which carry the monkey chats.

Plush, then cartoon, then plush again

For years the monkeys were shown as photos of actual stuffed monkeys. By 2018, Woot!'s app had switched to drawn cartoon versions, which longtime forum members noticed and debated. In June 2023, forum members cheered the stuffed monkeys' return to the monkey chat.

The screaming monkeys

Woot!'s best-known monkey merchandise isn't Mortimer or Monte at all. It's the screaming monkey: a small plush with stretchy, slingshot arms that screams as you fling it across the room, usually wearing a Woot! cape.

Woot! has sold them again and again, often as cheap Woot-Off items:

  • Yearly editions. Woot! has sold dated sets such as "2022 Woot! Screaming Monkeys" and "2024 Woot! Screaming Monkeys." The 2024 set came in a blue or green cape for $2.99, limited to 20 per customer, and its first buyer got in about two and a half minutes after launch.
  • Themed capes. Past monkeys have worn a bacon-and-eggs cape, a "Super Woot" cape, an orange psychedelic cape, and pink or blue capes.
  • Woot-Off Lights with Screaming Monkey. A $9.99 Woot-Off bundle paired the monkey with a set of USB rotating Woot-Off lights, the flashing orange lights that mean a Woot-Off is on. Its first sale came in under a second.
  • Still turning up. In the leftovers sale after Woot!'s June 2025 birthday Woot-Off, 2024 monkeys went for about $2.

Longtime fans remember Woot! once tossing screaming monkeys into random orders for free, back before Amazon bought the company, but we couldn't confirm that from Woot! itself.

Mortimer and Monte for sale

The named mascots have had their own merchandise too:

  • Mortimer & Monte Stress Ball Set. One stress ball of each monkey, about 4.5 inches tall and made in the USA, for $8.99, limited to one per customer. It went up in a Woot-Off in December 2021. According to Woot!'s write-up, it stood in for that year's screaming monkeys, which were stuck on a delayed cargo ship.
  • Mortimer Woot Pillow. A small two-sided velvet pillow of Mortimer's face, about 11 inches tall and made in the USA, for $7.99.

All of these sell out, and Woot! doesn't take backorders. Your best chance at the next one is a Woot-Off, so turn on the Woot-Off alerts in Woot!'s app. BetterWoot Search for "monkey" will show any that are live right now.
