Yes, Woot! is legit. It's owned by Amazon, you sign in with your Amazon account, and you pay through Amazon Pay, so purchases are covered by Amazon's A-to-z Guarantee. It's been selling deals since 2004.
What makes people wonder is how cheap things are and how strange the site can be. Both have plain explanations. Here's what you're actually getting.
Who runs Woot!
Woot! started in 2004 in Carrollton, Texas, as one of the first daily-deal sites: one product a day, until it sold out or midnight came. Amazon bought it in 2010, and its founder later started a one-deal-a-day site, Meh. (See Woot! vs. Meh.) Today it runs as Woot.com LLC, an Amazon company, and its logo says so.
That Amazon connection is everywhere once you look:
- Your account is an Amazon account. New Woot! accounts are Amazon accounts, and you sign in on an Amazon sign-in page.
- You pay with Amazon Pay. Every order goes through Amazon Pay, using the cards and addresses already in your Amazon account. Woot! never handles your card directly.
- Amazon ships a lot of it. On a typical day in October 2026, over half of Woot!'s live deals (about 5,600 of 9,600) were marked as fulfilled by Amazon.
- Prime works on Woot! orders. Prime members get free standard shipping on Woot! orders once they link their Prime account. (See Amazon Prime on Woot!)
What protects you
- The A-to-z Guarantee. Woot!'s FAQ says every purchase made with Amazon Pay is covered by Amazon's A-to-z Guarantee, except some sporting goods like certain knives. If an order never arrives or isn't what was described, you can file a claim with Amazon.
- 30-day returns. You can return most purchases within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. (See Woot!'s return policy.) If the item isn't damaged or defective, the cost of return shipping comes out of the refund.
- Damaged or defective items. Report them within 30 days through Woot!'s Support page. Some damaged-item returns can be started yourself from your order history.
- Warranties. If a deal has a warranty, it's listed in the deal's details. A manufacturer's warranty comes first. When Woot! provides its own warranty, it covers defects for up to 90 days unless the deal says otherwise.
There are exceptions. Bags of Crap can't be returned. Bulky items like vacuum-sealed mattresses and items that use fuel, like lawn mowers and grills, have their own rules. Read the deal's details before you buy anything big.
Why Woot! prices are so low
Much of what Woot! sells is stuff that needs a new home fast: overstock, last year's models, and refurbished or open-box items. Deals run for a limited time and in limited quantities, and when they're gone, they're gone.
Why the site seems odd
Woot! has always been goofy on purpose: monkey mascots, jokey product write-ups, and boxes of random "crap" for sale. The humor is part of the brand, not a sign that something's off.
Some things that trip people up:
- No backorders or waiting lists. When a deal sells out, it's gone, and the best ones sell out fast. Woot! may bring it back someday, but it doesn't promise.
- Ships to the 48 contiguous states only. Woot! doesn't ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or outside the U.S., except for Shirt.Woot.
- Orders can be canceled within 2 hours, with exceptions. Not if you chose expedited shipping, and not if the order has a Woot-Off item. (See what a Woot-Off is.)
Questions
Is Woot! owned by Amazon?
Yes. Amazon bought Woot! in 2010, and the site runs as an Amazon company.
Is checkout on Woot! safe?
You don't, exactly. Checkout goes through Amazon Pay, which uses the payment methods saved in your Amazon account.
Are Woot! products real, or knockoffs?
Woot! sells name brands alongside lesser-known ones, and many deals are refurbished or open box rather than new. The deal's details list the brand, the condition, and the warranty, so read those before buying.
Is BetterWoot run by Woot! or Amazon?
No. BetterWoot is an independent, free tool for searching and filtering Woot!'s deals. It isn't affiliated with Woot! or Amazon.
